Psoas Syndrome
What is Psoas Syndrome and what effect can it have on you? A dysfunction of the psoas muscle (a major hip flexor located in the lower back and pelvis) it can cause pain in the back, groin, and buttocks. It also may lead to difficulty in standing or the feeling that it is catching or slipping in the groin. Commonly caused by overuse, injury, or muscle imbalance, it can also occur without a clear cause. Regular chiropractic adjustments, massage, stretching, and strengthening exercises can bring you relief.
Stretching & Strengthening
Stretches such as kneeling hip flexor stretch, standing hip flexor stretch, and the supine hip flexor stretch help to lengthen and relax the psoas muscle. Marching in place can also bring relief.
Supine psoas stretches, elevated bent leg raises, lunges, and foam rolling the psoas area can help to reduce the pain, as well as straight leg raises, standing hip flexion, and bridging to improve psoas function.
Before trying any of these stretches or exercises, be sure to consult with Dr. Tarry to determine the best course of action.
